Charlie HallKeymasterHi EAGL’s!
In the Strategy Library, I have selected 3 more resources that you may want to look over to aid in your one-page plan (1PP) development.
- The first is an article by Jim Collins called Building Your Company’s Vision that covers a lot of the things we discussed in the Foundations section of the strategy slides. Ignore the BHAG part of the article since I found that the term was confusing to growers in the past, so we instead focus on Envisioned Future to encompass what would normally be considered a BHAG as well as how we picture the company.
- The second article, Bringing Science to the Art of Strategy, describes a process that firms use to get all of the management team on the same page regarding their strategic direction. It’s an article about Oil of Olay, which is a product of P&G. Don’t worry about the fact that it’s a beauty product; pay attention to the process (they call the 7 steps to strategy making) and the framework they use to test the validity of strategic options (see page 8). Lastly, pay real close attention to the pricing strategy they tested and how they found that higher prices actually spurred greater sales.
- The third article is the one that I referred to when we were discussing the value proposition and it is called Customer Value Propositions in Business Markets. This article is an essential read going into the Marketing session in Atlanta and will be a nice segue in your thinking. It is a REALLY good article and I have referred back to it often myself.
Next week, we will be starting our 1:1 sessions — I look forward to catching up on what you have been thinking and doing since our in-person meeting in Minneapolis!
Have a great weekend,
Charlie

Charlie HallKeymasterHi EAGL’s!
I am just checking in to say that it was good to see some of you in Columbus at Cultivate. I thought the show atmosphere was mostly positive. This week, I have the 3 remaining 1:1 sessions and looking forward to those. Hopefully you have had a chance to read the additional resources I sent to you two weeks ago, particularly the one regarding value propositions in B2B markets. I also wanted to remind you of the Bain Consulting article entitled Explore the B2B Elements of Value (slide 87 in the slide deck — see https://media.bain.com/b2b-eov/) because Kip is going to discuss this pretty heavily in the Market Session and it will help to be prepared ahead of time. Each of you have clear points of differentiation in the marketplace; it’s a matter of determining which ones are important to (resonate with) your customers.
As you continue to work on your plans, please remember that you can reach out to me at any time for questions or advice!
Have a great weekend,
Charlie
